Youvarlakia (egg-lemon with meatballs)


  • Ingredients
  • 1/2 lb. ground lamb (or veal or beef)
  • 1/2 cup of rice
  • 1 onion
  • 2 Tbsp. minced parsely, 1 Tbsp. crushed mint
  • 1 egg
  • butter
  • 1 can of beef consume or bullion
  • salt to taste, pinch of pepper
  • Egg-Lemon Sauce



  • Directions
  • Beat egg.
  • Chop onion.
  • Combine ground meat, egg, onion, mint and a pinch of salt and knead well.
  • Roll mixture into round balls the size of walnuts.
  • Roll balls in the minced parsley.
  • In a deep pot, melt 4 Tbsp. of butter and arrange meatballs in rows at bottom of pot.
  • Brown on all sides.
  • Add bullion, 2 cups of water and another 2 Tbsp. of butter.
  • Season with salt and pepper and simmer for 35-40 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and add Egg-Lemon Sauce.
  • Return to stove on low heat until served.
