Yia Yia's Saltsa


  • Ingredients
  • 28 oz. can of tomato puree
  • 2 Tbsp. of Sugar
  • 6 oz. can of tomato paste
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Pinch of pepper, salt to taste
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. allspice, 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • Hand full of grated cheese (Parmesan or Romano)
  • 2 beef bullion cubes (optional)



  • Directions
  • Empty tomato puree into kettle.
  • Fill empty tomato puree can with water and add to puree.
  • Add the rest of the ingredients.
  • If making with meatballs, add the drippings from the frying pan.
  • Simmer for 30 minutes.
  • Especially good with Keftethes (meatballs).
