Faki (lentil)


  • Ingredients
  • 1 lb. bag of lentils
  • 1/2 cup of Olive Oil
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • salt to taste
  • pinch of pepper
  • 8 oz. can of tomato sauce
  • bay leaf
  • 3 Tbsp. oregano (optional)



  • Directions
  • Bring 3 quarts of water to a boil in a kettle.
  • Wash the lentils. Years ago, you would have to sort though the lentils for stones, but that really isn't necessary with modern packaging.
  • Chop the onion and mince the clove of garlic.
  • Add the onion, olive oil, garlic, bay leaf, salt, pepper and tomato sauce to the boiling water. An option to the tomato sauce is a Tablespoon of tomato paste.
  • Bring water to boil again.
  • Add the lentils.
  • Cook for two hours.
