Macaronada (macaroni athenian)


  • Ingredients
  • 1 lb. macaroni or noodles (make sure the strands are long)
  • 1/4 lb. of butter
  • Grated mizitra cheese (parmasean or Romano will do if mizitra is not available, however, mizitra is optimal)



  • Directions
  • Cook macaroni in large pot of salted water (15-20 minutes).
  • Drain well.
  • Sprinkle a layer of grated cheese on a large platter.
  • Cover with 1/2 the macaroni.
  • Sprinkle generously with grated cheese.
  • Cover with another layer of the macaroni.
  • Sprinkle again with grated cheese.
  • Melt butter in large skillet until it turns golden brown stirring continuously.
  • Pour butter over macaroni and serve.
