Keftethes (meatballs)




  • Ingredients
  • 2 lbs. ground beef, 2 eggs
  • 1 large onion, 1 clove of garlic
  • Pinch of pepper, salt to taste
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 1 Tbsp. of spearmint, 1/2 tsp. of cumin powder
  • 3-4 slices of bread (stale bread prefferred)
  • 1 tsp. of tomato paste
  • Hand full of grated cheese (Parmasean or Romano)


  • Directions
  • Chop onion and mince garlic.
  • Beat eggs and pour over ground beef.
  • Knead eggs, onions and garlic into ground beef until thoroughly mixed.
  • Soak the bread in water, then squeeze fine.
  • Knead bread and remaining ingredients into ground beef.
  • When all ingredients are incorporated, roll mixture into meatballs and roll each meatball in flour.
  • Fry in a little olive oil until all sides are brown.
  • Tastes great with Yia Yia's Saltsa.
